FC BARCELONA fortifies attack with Nachbar
FC Barcelona added some
serious veteran know-how by signing Bostjan Nachbar, who was the Turkish
Airlines Euroleague runner-up in scoring last season, to a two-year
contract on Tuesday, the club announced. Nachbar (2.06 meters, 33 years
old) averaged 16.1 points per game over 23 appearances with Brose
Baskets Bamberg. He set a club scoring record with 35 points in a road
loss to CSKA Moscow in the Top 16. Nachbar also helped Bamberg
successfully defend its German League championship. Barcelona will be
his seventh Euroleague club in nine seasons in the competition.
Nachbar began his career with Maribor Ovni and also played for Pivovarna
Lasko and Union Olimpija in his native Slovenia and later for Italy’s
Benetton Treviso, with whom he reached the 2002 Final Four in Bologna.
He spent the next six seasons in the NBA, playing a combined 317 regular
season and 18 playoff games with Houston, New Orleans and New Jersey.
Nachbar returned to Europe with Dynamo Moscow in 2008. He became a
2008-09 All-Eurocup First Team selection after leading Dynamo to the
Final Eight. He has since spent two seasons with Efes Pilsen and part of
another with Unics Kazan. Nachbar has been a frequent contributor to
the Slovenian national team and played at EuroBasket 2003, 2005 and 2009
as well as the 2006 and 2010 world championships.
